OpenAI launches always-on Dots agents

OpenAI introduced its new Dots agents at the DevDay 2026 developer conference to handle continuous work tasks independently. Each agent runs on its own cloud computer with a browser, connecting to over 4,000 apps and communicating through ChatGPT, Slack, and Microsoft Teams.

Alongside the agents, OpenAI released a cheaper model named GPT-6.1 Sol, while holding back the top-end GPT-6.1 Astra over safety problems. Each user receives one agent at launch, and Europe gets a restricted release.
