Google retires Gemini Gems and moves tools to Skills

Google announced the retirement of Gemini Gems, shifting custom tools to a new system called Skills. Support for Gems ends on November 17, and user data will be migrated to the new structure.

Users can continue using their custom assistants until the transition is complete, though data migration may take a few days past the deadline. While Gems are available to free accounts, Skills are currently restricted to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers, leaving free tier access uncertain.
